VaNessa Duplessie For Washington State Representative District 18

Our region and our communities continue to change rapidly. With every change comes a challenge and an opportunity. We need to ask whether the same old style of leadership in Olympia is going to help our families, businesses, farms, and small towns succeed in these changing times -- or will we continue to fall behind large cities and other parts of the state?

As a successful businesswoman and an active community member, I believe I can offer our region the leadership required to meet the challenges we face. Since I'm a seasoned professional, I believe I can make substantial changes quickly and effectively. Also, as a wife and a mother, I care about family issues in the district because they affect every family as well as my own. And, because I have invested and lived in the district, I'll be able to effectively tackle the issues that the residents of this area care about.

It is important that we do the best we can for our children's future. I'm dedicated to improving education and to helping our families by providing a safe, nurturing, prosperous, and healthy community. Preparing for the future means adapting to new opportunities, while maintaining the best of our traditional economic environment. I'm committed to building a strong, diverse local economy where our children can not only grow up and succeed in school but also stay here to find a good job and raise their families.

This means investing in the future--such as energy or health care advances -- bringing new jobs to our area, and supporting local, small businesses to stimulate our economy and protect all that makes our region so special. We must be socially responsible while remaining fiscally cautious in these changing economic times as we must find relief for our residents who feel the pinch at every turn. We must think intelligently about the investments we do and do not make and how they affect us in the long run.

My business background in real estate and technology will enable me to help advance these opportunities for our region. We cannot continue to elect people who reject future progress, denying our children--and ourselves--the future we deserve.

When elected, you can count on me to place the values of community and family above knee-jerk partisanship. You can count on me to embrace the future, while respecting our past.

I will bring a candor to Olympia to fight for our fair share, representing your values and priorities. I am not afraid to speak my mind when it comes to fighting for the needs of the constituents in our community. I won't be afraid to introduce legislation that helps ease burdensome taxes for our elderly on limited incomes or ones that limit growth of local businesses that provide family wages and improve our towns and cities.

We look to our leaders to make our community a worthy place to live where we can educate our children, walk our streets safely, and earn wages that support our families. There are many issues that face our great state including education, health care, energy, transportation and the environment.

All of these are big issues that break down to the nuts and bolts that face individuals on a daily basis. We need to ask the following:

  • Are my kids learning all they can in the best possible way in a safe environment?

  • When I am sick, can I afford a doctor and needed medications, and do I have good access to medical care?

  • Can I get where I am going in a reasonable amount of time, affordably and safely?

  • Will I be able to find stable employment that provides for my well being?

  • Will my kids find meaningful work here in our community or will they have to move elsewhere?

  • Can I afford to live in the community where I work?

Quality of life is an important part of who we are and where we live. Everyone deserves the ability to be an active participant in their government through the leaders they elect. But that requires leaders who are willing to listen, to set aside the demands of partisanship, and do what's right for the folks back home.

I am VaNessa Duplessie, a long-term resident, a concerned citizen and a working mom concerned about our schools, health care, and local economy. I want what you want, and I seek your support and your vote to represent you as your 18th Legislative District Representative. I'll be there for you when elected this year.

Please let me know what you love most about living in Southwest Washington and what improvements or changes you'd like to see happen.

I welcome your calls and emails.
